Asset Manager – Art & Real Estate (all genders)

The Hasso Plattner Foundation

Established by SAP co-founder Hasso Plattner, the Hasso Plattner Foundation builds and runs its own long-term philanthropic initiatives. It founds and funds institutions, shaping them over decades, such as the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering, Museum Barberini, and Sabine Plattner African Charities. An in-house Investment Office manages the endowment that makes it all possible.

As Asset Manager, you will take ownership of a unique portfolio of art and real estate, safeguarding its financial integrity through accurate accounting, strong controls, and rigorous valuations; you'll also turn that stewardship into clear, actionable reporting that helps the assets deliver even greater impact.

This role is based in Potsdam, Germany. We work predominantly in-office, by design. It's how we keep decisions fast and collaboration real.

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Asset Manager (all genders) to join our team and take ownership of a unique portfolio of art and real estate, ensuring the highest quality and consistency of financial reporting across all assigned assets. For real estate, this responsibility begins upon completion of the construction phase. The role safeguards the integrity of asset-related financial accounting and reporting, ensures timely and accurate documentation and communication, and delivers actionable insights that enhance the impact of the assets.

Your Responsibilities

  • Ensure the correct accounting treatment of assets in close coordination with the accounting function

  • Implement internal controls and processes to safeguard all assigned assets

  • Develop and maintain a reporting framework and prepare timely reports and presentations

  • Develop and implement a master data management concept and ensure accurate recording of asset documentation in the document management system

  • Assess risks and opportunities associated with the assigned assets and derive recommendations to mitigate them

  • Organize recurring asset valuations, including the coordination of external appraisers

  • Support due diligence and audit processes

  • Prepare ad hoc analyses and manage assets related projects to support decision-making

What You Bring

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Business Administration, or a related field, along with at least 4 years of experience in asset management, controlling, or accounting — ideally gained within a family office, foundation, or real estate environment.

  • A very good understanding of accounting principles and the balance-sheet treatment of fixed assets

  • Profound experience with real estate and/or art

  • A track record of building reporting frameworks and preparing management-level reports and presentations

  • Familiarity with valuation and due diligence processes, and the confidence to coordinate external appraisers

  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel; experience with SAP S/4HANA is a plus

  • Fluency in German and English

You Are...

  • A structured self-starter who handles multiple assets and priorities without losing detail

  • An analytical thinker with a clear, direct communication style, able to turn data into recommendations leadership can act on

  • Hands-on and proactive, comfortable moving straight from analysis into action

  • Energized by safeguarding something built to last: assets and institutions you can point to and be proud of

  • Someone who seeks feedback and raises the bar, for yourself and the team

What We Offer

  • Direct ownership of a distinctive portfolio spanning art and real estate, with your analysis shaping how HPF protects and grows it

  • A lean team with short reporting lines and fast decisions: your work is visible to leadership from day one

  • The entrepreneurial pace and ownership of a high-ambition organization, backed by the stability of a well-funded endowment

  • AI tools in active use (n8n, Asana AI Studio); we’re early in the journey, building seriously; we see AI as a means to an end, not a headline

  • Competitive compensation, state-of-the-art IT, public transport ticket, free lunch, excellent coffee, outdoor sports, and a beautiful lakeside office in Potsdam
