The organization: 

The Hasso Plattner Foundation aims to accelerate the adoption of digital technologies through science and education, improve access to foster connections through art and culture, and support environmental conservation. Hasso Plattner, one of the founders of SAP, an enterprise software company, served as chairman of its supervisory board from 2003 to 2024. 

 

In 1998, Hasso Plattner founded the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering (HPI), marking his first significant philanthropic contribution. After signing the Giving Pledge (initiated by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet), he established the foundation in 2015. The Hasso Plattner Foundation’s primary office is in Potsdam, Germany.

About the role: 

Join our team at the Hasso Plattner Foundation as a Working Student - Foundation IT Projects (all genders) where you will play a crucial role in developing and launching a new donation and impact management system. This system is designed to streamline data and workflow processes for the foundation and our charitable projects, thereby making a difference in the social impact and nonprofit sector. This position is ideal for those looking to build a career in IT Product or Project Management, or for those wanting to apply their IT management skills in the social impact and nonprofit sector. It will offer hands-on experience and the opportunity to collaborate with foundation internal users, SaaS vendors, and nonprofit partners across three continents. 

 

As part of a dynamic and ambitious team, you will be mentored and offered a flexible working environment mindful of your university schedule with a hybrid working model (onsite & remote).  

 

The office is in Potsdam (Germany) within commuting distance of central Berlin. 

 

Your responsibilities: 

As a Working Student, you will gain exposure to the entire lifecycle of system development and launch. Your specific responsibilities will be tailored to your experience level but may include: 

  • Documenting and analyzing user requirements for the new system
  • Supporting vendor onboarding and assisting in the discovery phase
  • Assisting with system configuration to meet the Foundation’s needs 
  • Planning, coordinating, and executing user acceptance testing (UAT). Preparing test cases and conducting independent acceptance tests
  • Coordination, reporting and scheduling support to project managers
  • Assisting in data migration processes and ensuring data accuracy
  • Supporting system launch activities and providing user training
  • Acting as a bridge between non-technical users and technical vendors, ensuring clear communication and effective problem-solving

 

Your experience & qualifications  

We are looking for someone who is: 

  • Experienced in or studying IT Product or Project Management
  • Organized and detail-oriented with a passion for technology and social impact
  • Fluent in English 
  • Strong in communication skills
  • Available for at least 9 months, working at least 20 hours per week. Full time (40 hours per week) is possible during the university non-lecture period
  • Additionally, the following will strengthen your application (but are not required): 
    • Interest in or familiarity with impact measurement in the social sector
    • Fluency in German
