The Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) is Germany's university center of excellence for digital engineering (www.hpi.de). The joint digital engineering faculty of the University of Potsdam and HPI offers an engineering computer science program that is unique in Germany and particularly practice-oriented. HPI conducts world-renowned university research. The focus of HPI teaching and research is on the fundamentals and applications of large, highly complex and networked IT systems.

 

The Hasso Plattner Institute, academically constituted as the Digital Engineering Faculty of the University of Potsdam, in the course of its strong growth, is looking for the next possible date at the Potsdam location for a

 

Event Manager and Teamlead Event (m/f/x)

 

The position is permanent and full-time.

 

As part of the partnership team at HPI, we organize HPI's events, ranging from the flagship conferences, such as the "Potsdam Conference for National Cyber Security", to the annual graduation ceremony and the HPI Summer Party. In the area of corporate relations, we build networks between HPI and stakeholders in business and politics. Events are our platform to showcase HPI’s excellence in Digital Engineering and to connect with our partners and relevant stakeholders from the industry, academia and the public sector.

 

We are looking for an experienced event manager, who leads the event team (currently 4 people) and reports to the Head of Corporate Relations, Alumni and Events. The successful candidate will also be event project lead for major events at HPI (for example, the HPI Summer Party).

 

Your Role

 

This role requires an individual, who enjoys working at the interface of industry and academia, who has a passion for high-quality events and enjoys leading a team in a fast-paced environment. Successful candidates index strongly on working in a team, have relevant job experience in both event and people management, and who is willing to organize 15+ events per year, iterating well-established conferences and creating new events.

 

The role also requires collaboration with all HPI teams, who have external collaborations as well as senior-level leaders across HPI departments. We are looking for an individual who thrives on new opportunities and can take the team with them on this journey.

 

Your Qualifications

 

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in communication, marketing or event management
  • Several years of professional experience in event management and communication (minimum of 10+ years)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in collaboration with external partners and other teams (community management, partner management and similar) as well as coordinating with PR- and event agencies
  • Proven experience in leading a team
  • Proven record in budget planning
  • Excellent communication skills in German and English (both fluent)

 

Additional Requirements:

  • You have the ability to manage your own projects and the event team in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders and changing priorities
  • You have a proven experience in independently writing texts for online media and publications in German and English
  • You have a warm and open nature and the mentality of wanting to redesign and implement things ("can-do" attitude)
  • Personal initiative, flexibility, intellectual curiosity, and ability to work across functions
  • You enjoy communicating and dealing with a wide range of stakeholders from HPI, university, in a corporate context, as well as politics
