The Digital Engineering Faculty of the University of Potsdam and HPI offers a computer science engineering degree program that is unique in Germany. 

In the course of its strong growth, the Hasso Plattner Institute is looking for the earliest possible start date for a

 

PhD candidate (m/f/x) 

 

​The position is temporary for a period of 3 years and full-time.

 

Our research group, led by Henrike Heyne (lecturer at the Chair of Data Analytics and Computational Statistics, Hasso Plattner Institute and Digital Engineering Faculty, University of Potsdam, Germany) is seeking applications for a PhD position. In our team we are working with large and small genomic and health datasets with the goal to better understand and alleviate disease.

 

Your future tasks

 

  • Conducting research with real-world impact on large-scale multimodal biomedical data with our group and international collaboration partners (such as Mount Sinai, NY, US) leading to your PhD.
    • Data: electronic health records of > 10M individuals, raw EEG data, genetic data
    • Methods: disease prediction, machine learning, deep learning, genetics
    • Program: embedded in the eHealth program, BMBFTR
  • Writing scientic papers and presenting them at top international conferences
  • Option to assist with teaching activities (such as supervising Master students)

 

Your skills

 

  • Graduated in (bio-)informatics, life science, medicine, statistical or related field
  • Advanced programming skills are a plus (R/python, others)
  • Experience with genetic and clinical data are a plus
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team
  • Commitment to transdisciplinary collaborative international research
  • Excellent communication skills in English
