The Digital Engineering Faculty of the University of Potsdam and HPI offers a computer science engineering degree program that is unique in Germany. 

 

In the course of its strong growth, the Hasso Plattner Institute is offering for the earliest possible start date a

 

PhD or Postdoc researcher position (f/m/x)

in collaboration with MIT

 

​The position is temporary for three years and full-time.

 

The Mosaic project is a joint research initiative with MIT funded by the Hasso Plattner Foundation. Mosaic develops an agentic data-processing system that automatically translates complex research questions into optimized, multisource queries across heterogeneous, multimodal collections, with a focus on the digital humanities. We will cooperate with leading cultural heritage institutions to tackle realworld challenges in provenance research and the restitution of Nazi-looted artworks. The position involves a close collaboration with our partners and includes research stays at MIT in Cambridge.

 

Your future tasks

 

  • Conducting research within the group and in collaboration with our international partners
  • Writing scientific papers and presenting them at top international conferences
  • Supervising Master’s students
  • Communicating research results for knowledge transfer and to the general public
  • Assisting with teaching activities (optional)

 

Your skills

 

  • Successfully completed Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Sci-ence, Digital Humanities, or a related field
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: data quality, data integration, data cleaning, agentic AI, provenance research
  • Enthusiasm for academic research, publishing, and the execution of practice-oriented projects
  • Communication skills, as well as proficiency in both spoken and written English
  • Commitment, independence, flexibility, and team spirit
