Student Assistant Mobile Application and Data Infrastructure (m/f/x) 

 

 The position is temporary and part-time (9-20 hours / week)

 

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Student Assistant at the Machine Learning Chair of Prof. Dr. Lippert, to support our team in research and development projects of national and international scope. In this role, you will primarily contribute to the design, development, and management of a mobile application that allows citizens to contribute their health data for scientific purposes. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of a de-identification service.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and maintenance of an Android mobile application, utilizing Kotlin, for citizens to provide their health data for research purposes.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure the application meets research and scientific requirements.
  • Assist in implementing de-identification service functionalities using FHIR bundles and harmonized FHIR coding elements, transforming them into standardized formats in the OMOP Common Data Model.
  • Help ensure data privacy and security by assisting in the integration of secrets management solutions like Vault.
  • Contribute to infrastructure provisioning and automation tasks using tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Assist in building and managing services/projects on Openstack or similar platforms.
  • Aid in database management tasks, including but not limited to PostgreSQL administration and optimization.
     

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as a student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of mobile application development, preferably on the Android platform using Kotlin.
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn about infrastructure provisioning and automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Interest in secrets management solutions, such as Vault.
  • Understanding about building and managing services/projects on platforms like Openstack.
  • Basic understanding of database management concepts, with a willingness to learn PostgreSQL.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in research and development projects of national or international scope.
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn about the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard.
  • Curiosity about the OMOP Common Data Model.
  • Understanding of mobile application development.
  • Interest in data de-identification techniques and privacy regulations.
